Science comes to life in Science Enrichment classes.
Several times a month, students in grades K-5 come to the science lab to spend time with Mrs. Petcu. Through hands-on inquiry experiences, students explore many areas of science and as you pass through the halls, it would not be unusual to hear students exclaiming...
"THAT'S AMAZING!"

Areas for Investigation for Science Enrichment Class
It is wonderful to be back at St. Matthew School for another year of Science Enrichment for grades K-5!
February marks another wonderful month filled with scientific discovery!!!
K: discovering about biodegradeable (what is that???) substances and some properties of water.
1st: activities focussing on our connection with the moon and the other planets.
2nd: measuring quantity, volume and temperature through different experiments. We will be doing some graphing se well.
3rd: watching our tulip garden and monitoring outdoor conditions. We will also check in with the world wide map. Students will continue their study of crystals by making solutions and growing crystals
4th: making a hand held microscope to study focal length and the importance of magnification and clarity. They will also be making sediment bottles and predicting the results of material layering.
5th: continuing study and use of microscopes; first by viewing and recording images from the SMS's labs slide library and finally by learning how to prepare their own slide mounts.
