Mission Statement
As an extension of the mission of the Church of Saint Matthew to proclaim the message and teachings of Jesus Christ, Saint Matthew School exists to pass on the traditions and teachings of the Catholic faith. Recognizing that parents are the primary educators of their children, the school is committed to sharing the task of nurturing and educating the children spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Through a program of academic excellence, Saint Matthew School provides an environment that promotes the growth of Christian service, leadership, and good citizenship within a welcoming environment.

Policy

All prospective students are encouraged to visit St. Matthew School during the school day to experience the life of the school.  Prospective Kindergarten parents are encouraged to attend the Guided Tour and Information Sessions during October and November (click here for more information.)  Prospective families with students in grades 1-8 are invited to attend a guided tour on Wednesday mornings at 9:00am (click here for more information.)  We invite all families to attend school Masses on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. in the church.

Admission is open to students in grades kindergarten through eight.  The process for Kindergarten admission begins with a visit to St. Matthew School.  After a visit, prospective parents will be mailed an invitation for a readiness screening for their child (usually in late November).  Screenings take place in January, after which time other information is gathered (parish status, school records and screening results).  Acceptance decisions are made in early March and parents are notified via mail.  No waiting lists are established; acceptance is determined by readiness and priority is given based on a heirachy established by the Pastor.  Prospective Kindergarten students must be five years of age by September 30th of the year of enrollment.

The application process for students in grades one through eight varies depending on the circumstances of entrance.  Applications for current enrollment will be accepted at any time during the year if a spot is available.  Applications for the fall semester will be accepted after January 1.  Those entering first grade must be six years of age by September 30 and have attended kindergarten.  Applications will include current and previous school records and results of any standardized tests taken.  A language, math, and writing assessment, along with a personal interview, will be conducted.  Past school records, standardized test scores and interview/assessment results, as well as other factors are used to determine acceptance.
